⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

'Ward D', written by Freida McFadden and published in 2023, is a psychological thriller that will leave you sleeping with the light on and recommending this book to everyone you know. The book follows Amy, a med student, as she works her required night shift at the hospital's most secure mental health unit 'Ward D'. She has to learn, try and relate to patients, remeber which patient's to avoid, keep her dark past hidden and most of all... she has to survive the night.

This book... I have no words. This book features betrayal like you've never seen before and it'll leave you guessing at every chapter. Frieda McFadden's use of an unreliable narrator (Amy) keeps you in her POV and mindset without revealing anything. The book is written in such a way that Amy hints at certain secrets about her past while also dealing with the ward, making the book almost impossible to put down. Using first person POV and Amy's unreliable narration keep the reader trapped in the story, so invested as if they were the ones working at the ward. Side characters come, go and come again, you never know if you'll see someone again. SPECIAL SHOUTOUT TO SPIDER DAN. Amy is such a relatable character, she feels like a friend as as you uncover more about her you can't help but become more invested. 100% recommend this books and all of hers, anyone who loves a horror movie won't be able to put the book down.

Ive read almost all of Freida McFadden books and Ward D was defiantly a stand out. I love the suspense and (obviously) SPIDER DAN. one of the best characters in the book and added light in the chaos of the book.

I really enjoyed reading this review. Your discussion of Amy as an unreliable narrator helped me understand why the story is so suspenseful, and your enthusiasm made the book sound impossible to put down.

Thanks Mia. Just read your review, and I totally concur. Freida McFadden has a talent for deception and is utterly unpredictable. I enjoy one of her many books as a refresher between more challenging or serious reading. I just know I will not be disappointed
